Ruth Kabbah is the town jezebel. She’s also ornery, a disaster in the kitchen, and peculiar in oh so many ways.

Evan is ex-military, gorgeous as sin, sweet as can be, and he is also her new neighbor.

He is not in any way discouraged to pursue the “weird” and beautiful neighbor. Her crotchety ways are even endearing him.

But Ruth has been hurt, by a former lover, by the town… will she trust again? And why does this particular man makes her want to?

I love small town romances and I love Talia Hibbert, but I thought this book was just meh. It read like a novella. I kept hoping for the characters to be developed more. Even the whole conflict of why the town hated her was a little disappointing, especially because it seemed to be resolved way too easily, you know?

It’s still a very well written book. I love how Talia Hibbert makes a point of having diversity represented in her books (interracial couple, autistic heroine), but I was expecting a little more. I will read the rest of the series, though. I just wasn’t wowed by this one.
