The blurb for this book is so well written that I decided to just add it here instead of trying to summarize this cute AF story myself:

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships–but her best friend does, and that’s what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor–and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford’s reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive’s career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding…six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

I loved everything about this book! The cover is so Star War-sy with the Kylo Ren/Rey vibes that it made me squeal. (Yup, I am one of those… lol)

Adam (another SW-y reference , Adam Driver y’all) is considered a major asshole advisor by his PhD candidates, but he is just a grumpy scientist. He’s just plain left-brain. Left-brain people can be fascinating when you learn how to deal with their left-brainess. Olive is that sweet lonely girl who will do anything for a friend, including fake-dating the Stanford Asshole to convince her best friend that she can go ahead and date the guy she’s very interested in. You see, Olive dated him a few times and Ahn doesn’t want to break the girl code. Olive will have none of that. Well, romantic comedy ensues.

This is very rom-com-y and even Olive plains says that in the book. The situations are trope-y but how everything develops is really fun to read. There is steam too, don’t be fooled! The professor can he very very hot…

The secondary characters are great! I would have loved to see a Holden/Malcolm book!

A side note: I already loved Adam, but his stance on the stench that is pumpkin spice made him a book boyfriend candidate! That crap is just gross!

If you want to have a fun time (especially if you are in academia), pick this one up, grab a cup of tea and enjoy!
