This book can definitely read as a standalone but if you know Melissa, you know she writes characters like no one else. You meet them briefly in a book, they make a cameo in another, and you already feel like you know them. So, when they finally get their own story, it’s magic. We met Desmond “Diesel” Black before. He is a nomad member of the Dark Knights motorcycle club. He is a giant of man, scary as hell and that’s exactly what they need at Whiskey Bros – a bartender who can scare the riff raff and protect the customers and the waiting staff. We also met Tracy before. She was living in the shelter for abused and battered women that the Whiskeys are pretty much involved in. She starts waitressing at the bar and Red, the matriarch, “assigns” Diesel to keep an eye on her so that she feels safe.

Everyone teases Diesel that he should just “get it on” with Tracey before the bar combusts into flames. They see the way he looks at her. But Diesel doesn’t stick around anywhere… right? Or will he?

I love Melissa’s books. I love how they are all interconnected and it always feels like you are catching up with beloved friends. In this one, you not only see Diesel and Tracey finally get together (and also learn something pretty shocking and oh so great about Diesel’s past, something he himself had no idea) but you also catch up on the lives of a lot of beloved characters. I also loved how Tracey came into her own self. How she retook her life in her hands and went from victim to badass. Way to go, Tracey!

You always get a book hangover with Melissa’s books. Of the good kind.  You immediately check when the next one is coming out so that you can go back to the people she introduced you to.

I highly recommend ALL her books. Again, no need to read them in order, but you will get so much more if you do.

Narration: I was halfway through my e-book when the audiobook came out and SWEET. BABY. JESUS!:  She got Jacob Morgan to narrate this one. Suffice it to say that I went back to chapter 1. LOL He killed it. Well, duh. Ms Peachwood also is great as Tracey.
