The Good Guys #1

Kindle Edition, Audiobook, Audible

Author: Lauren Blakely

Narrators: Vikas Adam, Evan Parker (+Michael Crouch, Teddy Hamilton, Jacob Morgan)

We met River Michaels in the Men of Summer books. He is the bartender and now Declan’s business partner in The Lazy Hammock. He has been friends with Owen Hayes, the public relations go-to man for the San Francisco Dragons,  since college. They value their friendship too much and 8 excruciatingly long years ago they made a pact to never get romantically involved. River did get involved with another friend in the past and the friendship went sour, and he doesn’t want to risk losing Owen’s friendship, so he proposes the pact. Which Owen reluctantly accepts, but he also values River’s friendship too much, so yeah.

Now River sees himself wondering… As Owen has been all this time. So when a trip to a friend’s house for “Frindsgiving” has them snowed in alone in Declan’s mom cabin, who cares about a pact? Right?

This is a sweet friends to lovers romance. There is zero angst in this one. It’s just warm and fuzzy feelings all over while we watch River and Owen finally give in to the deeper feelings they have for each other.

Narration: Two new narrators for me, and I really enjoyed the narration. I just thought that Evan Parker’s lovely voice sounded a little bit older than a 29-year-old’s would sound like (I have the same problem when I listen to anything narrated by the amazing Sebastian York).

If you are listening to the audiobook, you get a teaser for TJ’s (Owen’s romance writer friend) story, narrated by Teddy Hamilton. You also get a bonus story, Toby the vet’s story, narrated by Michael Crouch: : Dr Good in Bed. It’s a sweet little tale where the vet finds love with… an audiobook narrator!

And if, like me,  you loved One Time Only (Jackson and Stone’s book) you get a bonus delightful “prequel” to their book, telling us how they met. It’s narrated by “Jeddy “, of course. And Jacob Morgan playing Stone Zenith is one of my favorite narrations EVER. Swoon.
