Brooklyn Bruisers #4

Audiobook, Storytel

Author: Sarina Bowen

Narrators: Zachary Webber, Virginia Rose and Joe Hempel.

Rebecca has been Nathan’s employee since he was a fledgling entrepreneur seven years ago. She has been with him since before he became a billionaire and, when he bought the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team, she was transferred from the office to the team to act as assistant to the general manager. She loves the game and her new job, but she still doesn’t understand why Nathan decided to “get rid of her”so to speak. Nathan knows exactly why: he has been pining for her for ages. Ever since she showed up with tequila and empanadas at his office to help him drown his sorrows after finding out his fiancée cheated on him. What Nate doesn’t know is that she feels the same for him. She had a crush on him from day one but she burrowed it all inside because he is her boss.

One day, Bec slips on the ice and suffers a concussion and the symptoms just won’t go away. Nate finds her a top notch doctor and whisks her away to his mansion to take care of her. From then on, all bets are off…

I loved this book! Although it is part of a series, it definitely can be read a standalone. Nathan is an adorable character. He is indeed a billionaire, but he still has the “geek” endearing qualities. Bec is a little insecure (she feels “less” because she never finished college and all that jazz…), but they are perfect togetther. And there is an extra character that is just as adorable, albeit not real: Bingsley (AKA HAL), Nate’s AI assistant who is this close to becoming a sentient being!

If you like a pining hero, a sweet story of friends becoming lovers, this is the book for you!

Possible triggers: cheating (not the main characters)

Narration: Zach Webber as Nathan ( yeah, yeah, I won’t say anything anymore…lol) and Virginia Rose as Bec do an amazing job. This book has an extra narrator: Joe Hempel, who narrates the flashback scenes and the epilogue. I really liked this extra touch!
