Author: Tessa Bailey

E-book, KOBO

I’m going to be thrown into the fiery pits of hell by the people who gushed about this one, but here we go:

This novella had everything I would hope in a Christmas story. It’s set in my beloved hometown of NYC during the holiday season, it has a cinnamon roll hero who is fire in the sheets, an intriguing heroine who has just got out of jail, a set of wonderful secondary characters… and yet, it was meh AF.

I am not a fan of insta-love. And this one has insta-love to the max. I am willing to forego my pettiness against it in a holiday story, because ’tis the season and all that crap, but c’mon! The amount of suspension of disbelief asked of me here surpasses the levels asked in a sci-fi novel. The hero is too “good”, not even a Christmas miracle would give an ex-con a job in a high end store on 5th Ave, sight unseen basically.

There are super steamy moments (which I am totally on board with) and super sweet moments. But, maybe, this should have been a full book. I needed more development.

People say that (like her “fisherman meets ditzy blonde” book for Schitt’s Creek) this book has “Ted Lasso” vibes. Well, I wouldn’t know. To be honest, it gave me National Lampoon’s Vacation vibes with Aunt Edna! LOL I’m just glad the quirky lady didn’t end up tied up to the roof of a station wagon. Just sayin’..

This is my second try and I am starting to think that this author is not for me.

The story is cute and spicy, but I was feeling a little… eh.

Oh well, have a Merry Christmas and I hope you wear robes! 😉
