Well Met #2

E-book, Kindle

Author: Jen DeLuca

We are back at the Renaissance Faire and now we follow Stacey’s story. She’s in a rut. She has been living in Willow Creek since forever. When she was about to embark in an exciting career in fashion in NYC, her mom suffers a heart attack and she rushes back home… and never leaves. She has her job at a dental office, she volunteers at the Faire, she hooks up with Dex when he is town for the fair… and that’s it.

Now her friends are engaged to be married (at the Faire!) and she’s feeling a little lonely. On a drunken whim, she sends a message to Dex (while they had a tacit agreement that it was very no-strings attached). To her surprise, he responds! And he is completely different with her. They start a long “epistolary romance” and she thinks he might be “The One”… until she finds out that the person who has been talking to her all this time wasn’t Dex, but this cousin Daniel. Is this a Cyrano situation? Is she Roxanne?

Well, I am conflicted about this book. Here’s why:

1 – Stacey’s personality. I understand the frustration of feeling trapped in a life she didn’t choose, but she doesn’t really do anything about it. Also, she behaves like a doormat when it comes to the men in her life (it comes to a point where she considers apologizing for being mad at being basically catfished!!!)

2 – Daniel is sweet and all and I understand where he is coming from, but there was not enough groveling and begging of forgiveness for me. He CATFISHED her for ten long months and then lied to her – TWICE!! That didn’t sit well with me.

3 – I can’t believe I’m saying this, but there was too much Simon and Emily in this book. Mind you , I loved them in book 1, but they are almost as present in this one as the main characters.

I enjoyed reading it, but I yelled a little because of points 1 and 2.

Definitely not a standalone. Reading book 1 is key to follow this story well.

Off to book #3, though. It’s Mitch and April!!!!
