Undead Ever After Book #1

Author: Stacey Kennedy

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you NetGalley and Stacey Kennedy.

After being shunned by her coven for not passing the Summer Solstice Rite, Willa Farrington moves to Charleston, a city now run by vampires. She opens a bookstore and unexpectedly makes friends in the vampire community.

One day, some strange vampires visit her bookstore and when she’s leaving for the night, they attack her. Out of nowhere, Killian Constantine, the Warden of Charleston, shows up to save her. Unbeknownst as to how (as she is a powerless witch), she summoned him telepathically.

Since she’s clearly in danger and he’s highly intrigued by this course of events, they set out to try to find out what’s behind the attacks. As they get closer, the attraction between them becomes stronger, but a liaison between a witch and a vampire is still frowned upon and  she’s unsure of how to respond to it.

With her life in danger and having so many questions about her own identity, Willa puts her life in the hands of the vampires and hopes for the best.

I absolutely loved this book! It starts with the fact that she has a freaking pet dragon! A baby dragon! A tiny thing that she can carry in her arms and that, like her, is a little broken (he can’t breathe fire – just “sneeze” some sparks). The romance is of the “fated mate”, swoony, dreamy kind and when they get together they combust!

The turn of events in the end is a little expected but it’s a great fun!

Great secondary characters and lore development, and I wanted to know more about the witches, but since it’s book 1, I hope to see more of them in the next one. Great fun!

Possible triggers: violent attacks, a beheading on page
