Narrators: Jacob Morgan and Mari

Alexander Wolfe has been staying for a few weeks incognito at The Sterling, a luxury resort in Barbados. He’s been trying to buy it for some time but the owner won’t budge. While there as Mr. Underhill, he meets a beautiful and fascinating woman and is completely smitten. Much to his surprise, when he finally has a meeting with the owner, he finds out that she is his daughter. And she proceeds to hand his ass to him on platter, annihilating him in what he hoped would be a fruitful meeting.

He’s never felt this way before and is willing to forego the buy to pursue a relationship with her. There seems to be very strong reason why The Sterlings won’t part the resort (one he can’t seem to find out), but he respects her wishes and backs down completely. As for his partner, not so much, and the couple’s future together is put in jeopardy.

This is a beautiful “island romance” and I fell in love with Calypso and Alex. The author also deals with some heavy subjects here: losing a spouse/parent to early onset Alzheimer’s, and also how women of color are seen as “exotic”, being either turned into sex objects or not being taken seriously at all. I really liked how the author dealt with these issues in the book. I’ll definitely be reading more from her.

Narration: this is one of the @audioincolor audiobooks and I’m so happy it introduced me to a new wonderful narrator, Mari, who voices the feisty Calypso. Her partner is Jacob Morgan, who y’all know I’m basically a card-carrying stan for (joking…, just a regular SANE, unhinged fan lol). They both killed it with all the accents and kid voices, bringing the island to us. Highly recommend!

BTW: I loved the 25-year jump in the epilogue and the Spotify playlist at the end of the book. I suggest you download that first and read/listen to the book with an added soundtrack.

Possible Triggers: spouse/parent with Alzheimer’s, women of color portrayed as “exotic”
