Love Lines #3

Author: Cara Bastone

Narrators: Amanda Ronconi and Zachary Webber (plus a full cast of Josh Hurley, Carol Monda, Corey Allen, Alyson Johnson, Eric Yves Garcia, Tanya Eby and Dina Perlman)

Gwen and Sam have an interesting meet-cute: they get the last two seats (horribly located right across from the bathroom) in a bus from Boston to NYC. He’s going there for a “blind date” his mom arranged for him with his high school crush and Gwen is going there for an opportunity to interview her idol for her website (and maybe a book deal). As the hours pass, they talk. And talk. Gwen is nervous and he does everything to distract her. When the bus breaks down, Sam becomes her hero: he enlists a friend to pick them up and loan them a car so he can drive her to NYC so that she won’t miss the interview. In a comedy of errors, they squish themselves in a clunker from the 70s, stop to rescue kittens left in a box in the middle of the road, navigate through the notoriously bad Manhattan traffic to finally get there.

Sam think he and Gwen can have something there, but she dismisses him. There’s a little something about her she hasn’t told him and it just makes it impossible for them to be together. Will there be hope for Sam and Gwen?

Narration: The story and sweet and cute and it all happens under 24 hours, making it very instalovey. What really makes this audiobook is the stellar production: an amazing job by Amanda Ronconi and Zachary Webber ( +a full cast of Josh Hurley, Carol Monda, Corey Allen, Alyson Johnson, Eric Yves Garcia, Tanya Eby and Dina Perlman). Since this is an audio play, they can really “act” and not just “narrate” and it’s a joy! Short and sweet!

Zero spice folks, but plenty of sugar (sweetness and charm)

Possible Triggers: mentions of a painful breakup; feelings of alienation from parental figures
