Cade Brothers #3

audiobook, Audible

Author: Jules Barnard

Narrators: Susannah Jones and Zachary Webber

Bran Cade is called “The Monk” by his brothers. He has certain “rules” he lives by to keep himself out of trouble. He has his reasons for doing so because he has been in trouble in the past and he got scarred by what happened. Everything goes awry when Ireland shows up at his resort. At first, he does everything in his power to keep her at a distance, to the point she truly believes he dislikes her. Oh, poor Bran… he wasn’t expecting the clumsy (she can’t see without her glasses, which she never wears), red-haired, computer nerd to be so irresistible.

When Ireland meets Bran, she’s very attracted to the broody Cade, but if there is one thing she won’t tolerate in her life anymore is being mistreated, dismissed or not taken seriously.. and Bran seems to check the last two items monumentally. Their relationship has a rocky start as Bran apparently wrote the book on being dismissive.

When a major screw up with the restaurant’s delivery ordering software happens, Ireland comes to the rescue and their relationship fall into a nice, sweet pace… until something happens that sends Bran right back into his reserved and detached mode. But now Ireland’s had it. No, thank you, she doesn’t have time to waste on men like that. Will she take him back when he admits he royally screwed up?

In this installment, the characters are a little more fleshed out than in the previous ones, but the problem lies in the fact that there are so many secondary characters whose stories I feel like I should know about and it’s a tad annoying. Ireland’s cousin is such a big part of the book and it feels like we should have met her before and know what’s going on with her fiancé and their wedding. Oh well..

Once more, Zachary Webber and Susannah Jones save the day. They truly give these characters life, especially when we are listening to their inner monologues, which are hilarious.

I keep telling you guys – good narration can really elevate a book. Just sayin’
