The Vancouver Agitators #2

e-book, KU, Audiobook, Audible

Author: Meghan Quinn

Narrators: Teddy Hamilton and Kelsey Navarro

We met Eli Horsnby in Kiss and Don’t Tell  as he’s Pacey Lawes’s best friend and teammate. Ely has always had his eye on Penny Lawes, and he couldn’t break the “bro code” with his best friend’s sister, but a chance meeting on Valentine’s Day (also his birthday) leads to a mind-blowing one night stand. They both think that their hook up was a one time only thing that would remain a secret until Penny, who’s also the team’s social media manager, calls Eli and Pacey to a meeting and tells both of them those other three little words: “I am pregnant”. Eli is dead set on “doing the right thing”, accepts Pacey’s demands and moves in with Penny to be there for her all the way through the pregnancy. Shenanigans ensue, feelings are caught and things get complicated.

What I really like about Meghan Quinn’s books is how she writes friendships. The banter, the jokes, the group texts…it’s amazing.

This is a sports romance but you don’t get overwhelmed by it. They guys just happen to be hockey players.

Eli is scarred emotionally by his past – orphaned at a young age, he never felt any love from the people who raised him and he has a hard time dealing with his feelings. Penny is a quirky, fun character, but I must confess that her “crazy pregnant girl” antics were a bit too much for me. She became a bit of a caricature at some points. I did laugh at all the craziness, though.

All in all a fun read.

Narration: This narrated duet style and it makes all the difference! Teddy Hamilton does Eli’s and all the other male voices and Kelsey Navarro does Penny’s and all female voices and they are SO SO GOOD!

Possible triggers: surprise pregnancy, abandonment and commitment issues
