Opposites do attract: Alexis is a 37-year-old ER doctor from a prestigious family of world renowned doctors. She wears designer clothes, drives a fancy car, lives in a mansion in Minneapolis… the works. Daniel is 28, with no college education. He lives in the tiny town of Wakan, where he is the mayor. He runs a BB and he dabbles in custom carpentry. And he’s taking care of a baby goat!

But when fate (or was it magic?) sends Alexis’s car into a ditch, it’s Daniel who shows up to help. They hit it off after pulling a “prank” on his friends at the diner where they stop after helps her. They spend the night together and she “steals” his hoodie. Well, she has to return it, right?

They’re extremely attracted to each other but their lives just don’t fit. They’re bound to enormous obligations (she the family legacy in the hospital and he the whole town) and the more they fall for each other the more glaring the differences become. Thrown in Alexis’s mentally abusive ex, her equally overbearing and verbally abusive father and everything is working to keep them apart.

But Wakan (“magic”) wants them together and they can’t bear being apart. Will the magic of the town win?

What a lovely book! Daniel is book boyfriend material of the first quality! Alexis is that heroine that you can1’t not root for: she’s coming into her won, after being mentally abused by her douchy ex, she has to deal with the parents form HELL and she has just found out that her beloved twin brother threw caution to the wind, ignored that legacy, married a pop star and moved to Cambodia! When Alexis and Daniel are together, she becomes her true self and it’s a joy to see. I also love that in this age gap romance it’s the woman who is older.

The subtle magical element adds a touch of whimsy to this wonderful book.

Narration: Julia Whelan is a queen and she nails it. Now here I go again: Zachary Freaking Webber. He made me teary-eyed a couple of times and I’m a cold-hearted bitch… No wonder he’s my GOAT (not the kind of goat in the book! lol) He’s my 1-click buy and I’ll listen to him narrate anything.

Possible triggers: heroine was in a mentally abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend; heroine’s father is equally abusive and her mother is omissive
