Harper Ward is an wilderness guide in Helena Springs, Montana. When the sheriff”s department asks her to assist Mark Gallagher in a murder investigation she’s shocked to find out that the prime suspect is a man who’s apparently lived in the wilderness his whole life – a savage. He certainly looks the part, but she sees intelligence and kindness in his eyes.  The more she learns about Lucas (or Jak), the more she’s drawn to him. Strange “coincidences” start happening and soon Harper is in the middle of a web of secrets, mystery and danger. Is he truly what he seems to be or is he a cold blooded murderer?

Let me start by saying that I really really enjoyed reading this one, but SWEET. BABY. JAY.ZOOS. There is so much shit happening in this book that my head is still spinning! It’s definitely a page-turner but you will have to go into it with a gigantic dose of suspension of disbelief because so many incredibly farfetched things happen that you will be rolling your eyes hard if you don’t just accept it and enjoy the ride. It’s riveting, but at times you think this is a perverted version of The Truman Show that had a child with The Hunger Games and the child is Tarzan, or Mowgli. Add a dash of The Lord of The Flies for flavor. So, yeah, brace yourselves.

I completely fell in love with Lucas/Jak and my heart broke for everything he went through. Harper is a very likable heroine, but the romance really took second place in this story with all the crazy stuff happening. When they’re together, it’s kinda magical, but they’re just not together enough for me.

I can’t comment much more because I don’t want to spoil any twists and turns, but it’s a great suspense/mystery story with a sweet romance as a backdrop.

Triple POV: Jak’s, Harper’s and Agent Gallagher’s

Narration: Wonderful narration by Chelsea Hatfield (new to me) and by the unbelievably talented Christian Fox, whose signature bedroom voice brings all the feels in this one.

Possible triggers: you all know I like to post everything I think can be a trigger and this will be a long list and I may have missed something still: death of parents, sexual assault against a minor, kidnapping, drug addiction, mental and physical torture, a child is killed by another child in self-defense, a beloved pet is killed with the purpose of torturing the owner, child sold by parent
