Penelope and Odysseus are at each other’s throats. Apparently, he can’t keep it in his pants, which is normal behavior in Olympus amongst the elite in the upper city. The little problem is he’s been flaunting his mistress, Calypso, around and Penelope is beyond furious. Zeus is not happy with the feuding and contacts Athena to “solve the problem”. Their solution is to literally get rid of Callypso and for that Athena requests the services of Medusa.
Medusa owes Athena her life. She was rescued from a sadistic Poseidon and brought to Athena’s elite group of special forces. She’s not happy with the tasks assigned to her, but given her scars and her appearance, she keeps the pretense that she is indeed a monster to protect herself.
When she arrives at Calypso’s apartment, the last she was expecting was to meet a beautiful, witty and and smart woman who bests her and escapes, using Medusa’s attraction to her in her favor. She flees to the lower city, with Medusa in her wake. When they meet again, they realize that there could be a better life for both of them on the other side of the river Styx. Together.
A short novella, with events happening before “Neon Gods”, this is a clever reimagining using Medusa and Calypso from Greek mythology. It’s a fun, steamy read that puts you right in the mood for the next stories in the series. I wish it were a full book!
