Small Town Romance #1 (The Malone Sisters)

Kindle E-book

Author: Tasha L. Harrison

Sonja Watts is 40 years old and recently divorced. Wanting to be financially independent, she enters a 6-week course for entrepreneurs. Her idea is to use her knowledge of herbs and lotions and open an online apothecary business. She’ll dig into her own Gullah roots and turn what was “dabbling” in making her creams, lotions and potions into a hopefully successful business.

Her instrutor at the course is Atlas James: 10 years her junior, with a body to fit the name, gorgeous and, sight unseen, already completely smitten with her from the moment he heard her voice.

Will Sonja chase her dreams? Will she believe her body is attractive and so is her mind? Even a “little magic” will come into play to get Atlas and Soni to their HEA.

What a delightful read! I loved how Soni is determined to take her life back and that she pulls her strength for that from her roots, her family and her spirituality. Atlas is a true cinnamon roll hero and is not very intimidated by her age or her kids and I adored how he interacts with them. Her kids are also amazingly supportive of their mom and it’s a joy to see.

I absolutely fell in love with the Malone sisters and the magical elements in this story!

(Side note: as a teacher, I can’t NOT mention something that bugged the crap out of me. There are several grammar mistakes, garbled sentences and assorted typos that a little proofreading would have taken care of. I am NOT (and I can’t stress this enough) saying anything about the use of AAVE in the story, as it’s used well, and to my knowledge, appropriately. It’s simple, common grammar mistakes that had me reaching for my now retired red pen.)

Rep and possible triggers: black author, black love, Gullah heritage, OWYM. The FMC is dealing with the aftermath of divorce
