Tattered and Torn #5

Audible audiobook

Author: Catherine Cowles

Narrators: Erin Mallon and Joe Arden

Shiloh’s broken… or at least everyone thinks she is. A survivor of a kidnapping that forever changed not only the course of her life but of her whole family’s, she can’t seem to be able to convince anyone that she’s not the helpless girl they think she is. There is only one person who sees the true Shiloh: Ramsey Bishop, the surly, grumpy, menacing man who lives with his rescue horses in his ranch. And Shiloh has seen how kindly he treats his horses. She’s been “visiting” the ranch for the longest time and when she decides to try flapping her wings, he’s there to help her – first as her landlord, then roommate and then her everything.

But evil always lurks in Wolf Gap and it wants Shiloh back…

I absolutely loved this book! I’m not that much of a fan of slow burns, but this one is done to perfection, considering that these two have to tentatively reach out to each other. The furtive glances, the light touches that are only tolerable because they are touching each other, the building of their trust in each other and how they become everything. Perfection!

There is something strange yet beautiful about this book: even with the whole mystery and danger involving Shiloh, we get an incredible sense of PEACE emanating from those two, their horses and the boys they bring to their fold.  It’s incredibly sweet, tender and moving.

The suspense is there and I love how Shiloh stands up for herself. Ramsey is that  grump you just want to hug.

Lovely ending to a wonderful series! I will miss spending time at Wolf Gap! What an exciting little town!

Narration: The fan favorite Joe Arden and Erin Mallon, bringing all the vulnerability and strength you see in Shiloh.

Possible triggers: mentions of previous kidnapping and incarceration, PTSD, mistreatment and neglect of children, mentions of cruelty committed against animals, violent acts
