Author: Catherine Cowles

Narrators: Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber

Wren and Holt knew each other all their lives. When their friendship blooms into romance no one is surprised. They seem to be destined to each other even though they are still teenagers. So when tragedy strikes and Holt leaves town, abandoning Wren to heal physically and emotionally, no one understands why, least of all Wren. As she’s not unfamiliar with being left alone to take care of herself, that’s what she does.

Ten years go by and Wren lives a quiet life in Cedar Ridge as one of the police dispatchers. Holt has joined and left the military and now has a prestigious security firm. He’s avoided their town as much as he possibly can, but now a family emergency brings him back to town and, inevitably, into Wren’s life.

You know you are in for a ride when the prologue of the book has your jaw hitting the floor and breaking your heart. This childhood friends/lovers/enemies/lovers romantic suspense is superb! Wren and Holt’s tragic story holds both the romance and the suspense together. I particularly liked how Catherine shows how a traumatic even has ramifications everywhere, particularly in a small community.

Wren is so young and at the same time a powerhouse of strength. Holt is tortured by the events and his love for her never waned. It was so deep that he removed himself from her life (and his family’s) because he truly believes he’s not worthy of her.

Sweet, spicy and nail biting! I’m very hard to surprise and I was left guessing till the very end. Beautiful romance and great suspense!  I can’t wait for Maddie and Nash now!

Narration: You get Andi A playing a strong but very hurt young woman and she nails it. Give Zach W a swoony, tortured alpha mellow and you know he’s going to make you melt. All the stars!

Possible triggers: the MCs and the whole town deal with the aftermath of a multiple shootings. Gun violence, kidnapping, hospitalization

I voluntarily read/listened and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.  Thanks, Catherine for the copies.
