Benchmarks Book #2

KU e-book

Author: Kate Canterbary

We are back at the Bayside school  and now we follow Max Murphy, the PE teacher and coach, fall for the hot new Science teacher, Jory Hayzer.

Max’s life is a little bit off track: he’s living in his sister’s basement after he finds out his long-time boyfriend had been cheating on him since forever, When he sees Jory on orientation day looking a little lost, he’s immediately drawn to him and offers to show him around.

Jory is “this close” to an anxiety attack when the gorgeous PE teacher approaches him, introduces himself and finally shows him where the meeting he’s supposed to be in is being held. He feels a vibe coming from Max, but his anxiety never makes new encounters easy for him. It’s good thing Max is persistent.

I really loved this novella! Yes, it’s instalust-y, but at the same time, we see them grow closer through the course of the school year. I love how open they are with each other and how they accept each other fully, anxiety and insecurities and all.

In true Kate Canterbary fashion, we catch up with beloved characters, in this case Tom (who works in the Walsh’s architectural firm) and Wes (who’s Lauren’s brother) from Missing in Action. They even mention Tiel! This kind of stuff is my catnip!

Sweet and spicy workplace romance! Loved it!

Possible triggers: this novella has a main character who deals with anxiety
