Carmichael Family #1

e-book and audiobook given from subscription

Author: Adriana Locke

Narrators: CJ Bloom and Lance Greenfield

Brooke found a perfect life in Kismet Beach: her dream job working as an interior architect with the best bosses, a cute little place, a great friendship with her co-worker, Moss… Until she has to attend her grandmother’s birthday party. You see, Brooke’s family is the stuff from nightmares. Her mother puts her down constantly , her aunt is dating her ex-husband (you read it correctly), they criticize her looks, her job, her life. Not attending is not an option and attending alone would be fodder for more criticism. So she and her friends have the “brilliant” idea to post an “ad” for a “situationship”, a guy who’ll pose as her boyfriend and attend the party. Well, the post practically goes viral in Kismet Beach. Her best friend posts that it was a joke, but it’s too late. Enter Moss Carmichael, volunteering as tribute. Cue the fireworks…

What a fun book! I love a good friends to lovers and this one is just perfect! When they finally decide to use the benefits of the “situationship”, it’s fire. I love how Brooke and Moss managed to heal each other from past wounds. I also adore the prankster brothers, the meddling family. Great kickstart for a series!

Narration: This was the first time I listened to CJ and Lance paired together and they were amazing! So many emotions that they managed to convey in their performances!

Possible triggers: toxic relationship with family, sudden death of a loved one (historical)
