Author: Kate Canterbary

We’re back in Friendship, Rhode Island and it’s been hit by a storm cloud! Sunny Du Jardin is back to the place she thought she’d never go back to, her hometown. She left town and her helicopter parents to live a full life where she’s not defined by her epilepsy. But the Universe is a prankster and she’s not only back but the bait shop she and her friends turned into Naked Provisions, a vegan café, is right across from the oyster bar run by her brother’s best friend’s family. The boy who, along with her brother, was the bane of her childhood years. But if there is one thing life has taught her is to roll with the punches, so, if she has to deal with Beckett Freaking Loew, she will. Infuriating man…

Beckett escaped from the zaniness of living with his “unconventional” parents as soon as he could. He had to parent himself (and his brothers) and he managed to find himself a cushy job all the way in Singapore. But his parents apparent inability to “adult” has brought him back to run the family business and try to get his parents out of jail, for crying out loud. The last thing he needed was the temptress from across the street who – the horror – turned out to be his best friend’s little sister! He’s shucked alright….

When I get my hands on a Kate Canterbary book, I KNOW I’m going to have the best time. So, when I had the opportunity to read an early copy I was ecstatic!

Sunny is an absolute badass heroine. She won’t let anyone make her fell “less than” because of her chronic illness. She’s learned to live with it, so everyone better get with the program. Beckett is dreamy (as Kate’s heroes usually are) and his love language is “fixing things”, so he has a hard time not protecting Sunny. They’ll bicker (oh the banter), they’ll fight and they’ll burn the sheets (and other surfaces)!

As in all Kate’s books, the secondary characters are amazing and if you haven’t fallen in love with Friendship and its festivals, you will. Yes, Shay and Noah make appearances. Loved everything about it! I can’t wait for Decker’s story and more of Parker’s philosophical tirades.

Possible triggers: FMC has epilepsy, biking accident, hospitalization, incarceration
