The Edens Book #2

Audible audiobook

Author: Devney Perry

Narrators: Maxine Mitchell and Jason Clarke

Memphis Ward arrives in Quincy, Montana on the 5th worst day of her life. She left her heiress/socialite life in NYC for a job as an inn housekeeper in a small town in Montana – towing her newborn baby and without a penny to her name. To make this day even worse, she finds out her sinfully gorgeous landlord didn’t want her living in the apartment above his garage. AT ALL. But she’s no heiress anymore and she’ll do anything to give Drake the life he deserves. Even if she has to swallow her pride and stay where she’s clearly not wanted.

Knox Eden likes his house. It’s secluded, quiet and he wasn’t expecting a beautiful woman with an adorable little boy would be living with him when he agreed to house the family inn’s new housekeeper until she finds an affordable place to live. Yeah, he’ll have some serious words with is sister… But when a colicky, crying baby calms down in his arms and he can’t keep his eyes from the mother, that’s when he knows he’s in trouble…

On a complete 180° shift from the tone in book 1, this is small town, grumpy hero, single mom gold. It’s absolutely lovely to see them slowly opening to each other. It’s heartbreaking to know why Knox is uncomfortable with Baby Drake. You can’t not root for the strong and resilient Memphis, who’ll do anything for her child. The whole Eden gang steps up to make them get their HEA and it’s sweet and swoony.

Narration gold with Maxine Mitchell flawless as the NYC heiress who sees herself penniless but who also didn’t know she could be so strong, even through the tears. Jason Clarke as the  grumpy but swoony chef is, pardon the pun, chef’s kiss.

PT: disownment, toxic relationship with a parent, loss of child (off page, historical, not death), financial instability and food insecurity
