The Edens #6

Audible audiobook

Author: Devney Perry

Narrators: Samantha Brentmoor and Ryan Hudson

Picking up exactly where we left off in Crimson River, Devney Perry gives us the perfect send off to The Edens! Oh how I loved that the heroine in this one is Vera, Vance’s long lost “niece”!

For Vera, it was love is fist sight and she has been pining for Mateo ever since. Vera is on a path of discovering who she is and what normal life can be after the traumatic events in the past that had her living in the wilderness with her fugitive father for years.

Everything clicks in this book. We find out what happened to Mateo while he was away in Alaska and how he ended up as the single dad to the adorable Alaina.

I loved how the somewhat insecure but definitely not fragile Vera gets fed up one day, takes the bull by the horns so to speak and stuns Mateo into complete shock! Boy, he may not have fallen first, but he fell harder!

And from then on, it’s their beautiful journey together. They both grow as individuals but their strength lies in being each other’s person.

We revisit all the Edens and they’re a fun bunch. It’s bittersweet because you definitely don’t want to say goodbye.

A book that will make talking about weather conditions swoony is definitely a home run in the “all the feels” department. I truly loved it.

Narrated dual style by Samantha Brentmoor and Ryan Hudson. Though Ryan (new to me) has a beautiful voice, his style of narration is definitely not for me. It feels too old school, maybe he is more experienced with non-fiction, but I couldn’t feel any emotion coming from his narration. Now Samantha Brentmoor does the heavy lifting here: Vera is a complex character, with so many nuances and Samantha delivers them all flawlessly. And, as its dual narration, she awes you by doing it all again when she voices Mateo from Vera’s POV. She brought a few tears to my eyes… but also lots of smiles.

Possible triggers: loss of parents and sibling in a tragic and violent way (historical), surprise child (historical), PTSD
