Treasure State Wildcats #3

Audible audiobook

Author: Devney Perry

Narrators: Vanessa  Edwin and Jason Clarke

Rush Ramsey, Wildcats football star, and Faye Gannon, student/diner waitress, meet when she is dire need to be rescued: alone by the side of the road with a flat tire, in the middle of nowhere.

Rush is intrigued by the girl. She’s a student at the same university but she has no idea who he is? He kinda likes it. So he changes her tire and tells her to stick around at his campsite for safety reasons. After all, if he misbehaves she can always use her bear spray on him,. But when morning comes, she left. He thinks he will eventually see her and he does, but not at school – in a bar at a bachelorette bar hop with friends. He tags along. Drinks are had. She goes home with him. The best night of his life happens but she leaves again. He doesn’t hear from her until a single text comes: “I am pregnant.”

I devoured this audiobook in one sitting. Accidental pregnancy is not my cup of tea, specially in a college setting, but this one sucked me in, mostly because of how real and raw it was. It hurt to see those two go through the wringer but it was also heartwarming to see a beautiful love story develop. If you have been following the series, you’ve briefly met Rush and Faye before as this story runs parallel with “Coach”.

I absolutely adored Faye. It broke my heart to see how life kept throwing her down but she never gives up. I loved how she valued her independence and her education. Rush is just book boyfriend material, even with his moments of freaking out.
Beware that this is a book that starts with a one night stand but it is a very slow burn into the romance. Really slow, but that is how it needed to be to allow these two to get where they need to be. I loved how committed they were to their “squish”. A lovely, touching story, with a lovely epilogue!

Dual style narration by two favorites: Vanessa Edwin and Jason Clarke, who did justice to the material. Vanessa captured Faye’s personality perfectly. Jason’s warm voice is just right for Rush, who’s at first stunned by the turn of events and then in love with the prospect of this new life. Amazing!

Content notes: accidental pregnancy, terminally ill parent (cancer), death of a parent, financial insecurity, mentions of cheating (not MCs)
