Even though her life keeps throwing her curve balls, Camille Ashwood likes to plan things. Her next plan is to marry the man her parents “selected” for her so she can secure her daughter’s future – one where Riley can make all her choices freely. She’ll finally be away from overbearing parents and she’ll raise her daughter in Meadowlark. Things go off the rails, though, when the groom doesn’t show up for the wedding, leaving her to clean up the mess and, worse, homeless. She is rescued from the bar where she is drowning her surprise in vodka by her high school sweetheart, the one she thought it was her forever.
When she rents the dream house she’d always had an eye on, she finds that Dusty is also the groundskeeper, which means that he’ll be living in the same property. She’s been avoiding him for more than a decade. Can she survive being so close to him?
Dusty Tucker has loved “Ash” ever since he laid eyes on her at her first day in a public school. They were each other’s firsts, each other’s everything until they weren’t. But there has not been a single day in which Ash lived rent free in his thoughts. He had resigned to the fact that she was getting married to another man but now maybe they can figure out that the “forever”they had once planned can finally come true.
I was invested in Cam and Dusty’s romance just from the snippets we got from the previous books un the series and I was a goner when I finally “met” them. Dusty is your quintessential pining hero and their romance is the very definition of the “it’s always been you” trope. You will swoon hard with Dusty and you’ll root for him to finally get THE GIRL.I loved how we watch them fall in love through flashbacks and we understand how they got where they are. There are swoon worthy small and grand gestures and I couldn’t put the book down!
It’s also the last in the Rebel Blue series and it ties up every story together in a beautiful chapter told through Emmy’s POV. Lovely and a MUST read!
Content notes: a bride is left at the altar; very toxic relationship with parents
