Author: Brit Benson
Narrators: Mollie Stark and Jason Clarke
Jonah Hendrix is the bad boy guitarist of The Hometown Heartless. He’s a magnet for bad press, and to be honest, he couldn’t care less. But when tragedy strikes and one of his “antics” threatens to smear his father’s squeaky clean reputation, the man sends someone to “mind” him – control him and clean his image in the media. He sends Claire, his own girlfriend, who’s just realizing she’s one of many mistresses. Messy, right? Well, buckle up…
If you have been following The Hometown Heartless and The Next Life series, you’ve met Jonah and Claire and I can see you frowning and going, “Claire? Really? No way!” Yes, way. And Brit managed something I never thought possible: you forgive her. You understand her and you end up even loving her. You also learn the root of Jonah’s destructive behavior and your heart will break into a million pieces.
Adding to this brilliant story is the stellar duet narration by Mollie Stark and Jason Clarke and they were PERFECT. The choice of having them perform in duet was genius as their performances feed off each other and its result is magic. Kudos to the production and engineering because it feels like they are in the same room all the time. Flawless.
I strongly urge you to get to this one having read the previous books as you will get a better understanding of where these characters are coming from, especially Claire. Plus, they are all phenomenal anyway.
Pick up your earphones, grab some tissues, prepare to have your heart broken, but know that it will be put back together. 11 out of 10. No notes.
