Lucy is spending her summer working as a waitress at an exclusive country club while living her dream catering events for the rich in the Hamptons. One of the events she caters is attended by Callahan Hastings. He’s very impressed by Lucy, who happens to be his brother’s ex, and he is determined to hire her as his private chef for the summer. Lucy thinks this is highly inappropriate and says no, but what Callahan wants Callahan gets. The longer they stay around each other, the more they seem to fall for each other. He’s not the ruthless, grumpy billionaire she thought he was, He’s completely stunned that Lucy is making him feels things he never thought he would…
But Lucy is going back to Virginia to help her parents run their business and is doing her best not to get attached. Well, that doesn’t work. At all.
Oh, this was my first Kat Singleton (yeah, yeah, I know!) but it won’t be my last! I was immediately hooked. I loved how low angst it is while still touching some hard subjects with respect. Lucy and Cal’s journey to their HEA is sweet and oh-so-spicy and if you love a boy obsessed, you have one! Between cooking lessons, trips to Chanel, pool parties and cooking videos, you fall in love with them.
Now let’s talk audio: oh my word! This is narrated in duet by Erin Mallon and Connor Crais, a pairing I’ve come to love, and it’s awesome. Erin portrays a sassy, fun and yet a little vulnerable Lucy perfectly and makes you want to be her friend. Now, Mr. Crais, with one ‘Lucy Baby’ I was ready to be scraped off the floor. I don’t know how he does it but with the added sighs and laughs and the scoffing, he creates a full fledged character in your ears. It”s like Cal is right there. And Erin is right there doing the same. Phenomenal!
If you love an age gap, billionaire, boy obsessed, he falls first, brother’s ex romance with a heroine who cares deeply for her family and a hero who will do anything for her, jump right in!
Thanks, Kat and team, for the lovely gift! Loved it!
Content notes: mentions of death of siblings, illness in the family (emergency and hospitalization)
