With the monumental hype around Lights Out, Caught Up already left the gate at a disadvantage. The pressure put on this to be LightsOut2 was gigantic and unfair. These are completely different characters that deserve a completely different story. 

Junior is Aly’s cousin (so, for the rabid fans, yes, Aly and Josh show up) and he’s very much done being a ‘made man’. He’s done with the mob and its “shenanigans” so to speak. Also, for the past ten years he has been (let me put it gently) “observing” the life of Lauren, a girl he had a thing with in high school and whose life was turned upside down because of that. 

Lauren overcame the shame of what happened in high school and is now a confident cam girl. What she doesn’t know is that the mysterious biker that she sees around and her first subscriber are one and the same and they are also Junior (Nico).  

When the truth comes out, all truths start coming out … and it gets messy. 

I gave Caught Up all the grace it needed considering and I was not disappointed. This is NOT Lights Out 2 – it’s less ‘goofy’ (for lack of a better word) and a little darker in tone. Nico has no qualms doing what is expected of him but he’s done. Lauren is a fun, confident character. I love that she is a self-assured sex worker who fights for their rights and is not ashamed.  I adored Taylor and Ryan (the roommates) and the appearance of Aly, Josh and the cats.

The audiobook is narrated in duet by Kasi Hollowell, Teddy Hamilton with special appearance by Jason June and it’s great. Again, then went into it with the weight of unrealistic expectations and they pulled it off. No notes! 

If you loved the previous one and don’t expect a rehash of it, you’ll have a great time. If you have’t read Lights Out, you can go right ahead and enjoy this one without being lost. I had a great time!
