Thanks, LibroFM, for this ALC.
This short audiobook can be described as Hallmark, but queer, and it would fit to a T. Royal Peterson is a Manhattan-based finance man who’s done with his high-pressure job that led to a medical scare. He packs his bags and decides to go to Windeville, a place his parents loved to visit and is quiet and simple.
There, he meets Beauregard Stone, a burly, gruff, flannel-wearing widower of few words. Stone’s husband died eight years ago and he has basically not smiled ever since. That is until he meets Royal and he feels his heart (and other dormant body parts) wake up.
And we all know where this is going, right?
The audiobook is solo narrated by Ryan West, who does a great job doing all the characters, main and secondary.
It’s sweet, short, spicy and it delivers exactly what it promises. I wish it weren’t that instalovey and instalusty, especially considering Stone’s past. The town is also a little too bubbly and too invested in their romance, but maybe it’s exactly what should be expected in the real world.
Also, I don’t know what the age gap really was between the characters, but I loved that at least one of them is 45. I love when ‘older’ characters get to have their stories told.
All in all it was a fun experience and pretty quick to listen to.
Rep: queer romance
Content notes: MMC1 lost husband in an accident. MMC2 had a health scare due to his job. Mentions of a suicide. (all historical, but with impact in the storyline)
