Warren and Maisie fall in love as teenagers, get married it their early 20s and then life happened. They did the long distance thing while Maisie went to college and Warren stayed at the ranch, but Maisie never came back. She stayed in NY, became a literary agent and is ready to start over with a new man. There’s just one little wrench in her plans: they never got divorced. No matter how many times she sends Warren divorce papers, they come back unsigned. So, she decides to confront him in person when she goes to Tennessee for her brother’s baby’s shower.

Warren is living his life at the ranch. His heart pretty much belongs to Maisie and it always will. He never even looked at another woman. (Yes, you read correctly.) So, when she comes banging on his door with the papers, he proposes a deal: give him seven dates, one week, for him to prove to her that they belong together. If by the end of the week she doesn’t change her mind, he’ll sign the papers.

The audiobook is narrated by Savannah Peachwood and Aiden Snow in dual style. They both give us a lovely and melodious southern accent! Savannah’s performance is wonderful as the determined Maisie, who’s been a people pleaser all her life and finally finds her footing. Aiden is swoony as the green flag Warren, a man who took his wedding vows very seriously and who will do anything to get his wife back.

I saw someone say that if ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and ‘The Notebook’ had a baby it would be this one and that is spot on! Some people will take issue with Maisie being engaged when she gets back with Warren, but her situation is way more complicated than that. I despise the cheating trope in books and I was okay with what happens here.

You get a hero who builds her a dream home (even knowing she might never live there), who learns to cook for her and who speaks with Aiden’s voice! Swoon! You also (if you have been reading Brooke’s books) recognize a few characters from the Sugarland series. I love when that happens! Great fun!

Content notes: there’s an element of cheating here, so be warned if this is not for you, toxic relationship with a parent, injuries sustained while dealing with a horse,
