What is it with Thanksgiving that it always brings trouble?! Sinna is resigned that she’ll spend this one alone. She usually spent it with her ex’s family, and although she loves Ms Hazel, that  ain’t happening. Even if she swears Vontae won’t be there. She doesn’t like disappointing Mama Hazel because she won’t be taking her sweet potato pie to dinner, so she compromises – brunch on Sunday, and she’ll bring her a pie. That sends her off to the Amish market to buy some sweet potatoes.

What she finds there is equally delicious : one hunk of a man, hair in locks and literally a golden smile with a lot of swagger added. Sparks fly but he puts his foot in his mouth and she leaves. What annoyed her was that he implied she was such a red flag she had nowhere to go for the holiday. That hurt. 

One the call to Mama Hazel and there she goes back to her place for dinner… only to find Gideon (or Golds, as she prefers to call him) at the table. He’s family. Oh yeah, and guess who decides to show up too? Vontae. With a date.

Narrated dual style by Nia Serge and Midnite Michael, who in a few short hours manage to make you feel invested in Sinna and Gideon’s explosive encounter.

I loved the meddling mama, the fun cousins, the pie rivalry between all the aunties (well, one of them has a ‘killer’ recipe indeed! ) and messy, messy Thanksgiving shenanigans! So fun!
