Hockey Guys #3
Audible audiobook
Author: Sarina Bowen
Narrators: Teddy Hamilton and J. F. Harding
We’re back with the Hockey Guys! Clay is the Colorado Cougars and the youngest coach in the league. He’s just been blindsided by the team’s GM with a trade – they’re getting the highest decorated goalie, who’s bringing his experience to the team and help lead them through the championship. He’s not happy. At all. Why? This goalie broke his heart 15 years ago when they were playing together in the minors and sharing a trashy apartment. This is his worst nightmare.
Jethro can’t take yet another disruption in his life. He’s already having to live with his estranged father because he needs help. He recently became the legal guardian of his nephew as his sister is in a court appointed rehab facility for driving under the influence of drugs and hurting her passenger. Now he gets the unexpected news that he’s been traded. From his hometown team. And to the Colorado Cougars. And the Cougar’s coach is Clay.
Old feelings and resentments will arise, but can they leave it all behind and lead the team to the Cup?
Narrated dual style by Teddy Hamilton and J.F. Harding, this one was just lovely! Teddy is perfect as the anxious, grumpy and responsible coach who can’t believe the love of his life has just shown up after 15 years. J. F. Harding is amazing as the no-nonsense, ‘I can’t believe anyone actually loves me’ me Jethro. Their chemistry is chef’s kiss.
I love all the side characters (including guys from the previous books). Clay’s sister and Jethro’s nephew are a hoot.
This book has everything you can expect from Sarina. In this we have the grumpy coach, the ‘unlovable’ guarded goalie, ‘it’s always been you’ vibes, the families, the players. We have cupcake lessons, cooking as a love language, family drama, secret hotel rendezvous and unexpected public love declarations. I loved this one!
Content notes: mentions of drug use, incarceration, rehab, homophobia
