Thanks, Laura for the ALC!

In the sweet prologue, we see the beautiful friendship between Wren and Axel (Horse Girl and Cowboy) and her profound love for her horse. Fast forward to a decade later and we see they had a falling out and haven’t even spoken to each other in two years. By now, Wren is a world champion equestrian and Axel has a very successful business making custom horse trailers.

So, when she shows up at his ranch for a job being sent by the temp agency, he’s befuddled. But the look of defeat in her eyes is all he needs to know – she needs him. And they made a pact: they would be there be there for each other always. No matter what. In a heartbeat.

Oh, this one made my heart melt! We quickly realize that this is an ‘it’s always been you’ best friends to lovers situation where things went very wrong. Laura slowly takes through what happened and we root for them to find the HEA that was always meant to be.

The audiobook is narrated in duet by Samantha Brentmoor and Alex Knox. Samantha is astonishing as always, going from 14-year-old Wren to broken adult Wren to confident Wren flawlessly. Alex gives us a green flag Axel, someone Wren can always rely on and trust. They both manage to convey all the feelings between these two people meant to be together.

As expected, we have the small town shenanigans (the Taylor Tea never disappoints), the group texts, the book club, pickle ball, a Beefcake appearance, grand gestures, A Disney villain family situation that gets satisfactorily sorted and and you will certainly fall for of it in a heartbeat.

Content notes: toxic family dynamics, toxic relationship between athlete/coach (psychological), cheating (not MCs), betrayal, loss of a beloved animal (not death)
