Thanks, Brilliance Audio for the copy.

When I want a palate cleanser, I go for thrillers and a romantic thriller/suspense by Mia Sherindan, was too good pass. I have to warn you, though, that the ‘romance’ is minimal, but it is there.

This book hits you in the face from the start: a creepy prologue and then a home invasion eleven years ago that shatters Cami Cortland’s life. She’s already going through a pregnancy scare when her house is invaded by two unhinged men, who do unspeakable things. Due to her wits, she and her father survive, but her mother and her 14-year-old sister do not.

On top of all the media circus, she has to deal with a narcissistic boyfriend who makes everyone believe her baby is a product of the attack and that is why she, understandably, puts him up for adoption.

She manages to rebuild her life, running a butterfly garden and avoiding relationships.

It all comes crashing down when a video of a boy trapped in a room is sent to her. A boy who has her eyes. And they offer her a ‘do over’… if she wants to save him. She has four days.

Help comes in the form of Rex Lowe, an old classmate whose life was sadly interconnected with her past. He has all the reasons to  hate her but he helps her anyway.  Rex (former military intelligence man) and Cami follow the clues and race to save to boy while finding out unimaginable truths.

The audiobook is narrated dual style by Carly Robbins and Keith Brown., They both do an amazing job in keeping us on our toes until the very last minute.

There are twists, secrets are revealed and you fall in love with Cyrus, a little boy whose smarts help him find the future that was always his.

There is, like I said, romance, but I wish it was more developed, especially considering Cami’s past trauma. Rex is the perfect green flag who has loved her since he was a teen and I would have loved to see them grow closer. I needed… more.
