Queen’s Command #1

Thanks, @simonmaverickaudio for the ALC.
Violet’s life is about to change drastically: her abuelita is given months to live while battling not only Alzheimer’s but a terminal disease. Her mother and sister won’t speak to her because she’s made it into the special forces course and her boyfriend breaks up with her for the same reason. Think that’s enough? Well, thrown in her boyfriend’s estranged father as her instructor.
Special Operator Beast has lost the ability to feel. His son doesn’t talk to him. He is plagued by the memories of way too many losses in his career too. And then she shows up, the Mariposa. The unbreakable soldier. And she’s making him FEEL. Too bad she belongs to his son.
The audiobook is narrated in duet by Janine Granda and James Cassidy, who excel in their roles. Janine’s sweet melodious voice embodies the badass on the outside Violet. Plus, her Spanish is flawless. James’s deep, growly voice is perfect for Kade ‘Beast’ O’Connell – a man plagued by his past and who fights any emotion like it’s going to kill him. They both manage to convey the off the charts chemistry between the characters.
There is a subplot with Violet’s grandmother that brings sweetness to a very dark and violet story.
I wish we had more of a development of the emotional side of Beast and Mariposa’s relationship. We get all the explosive, dark and forbidden carnal side of it, but I wanted more on the actual relationship side.
We also get a little scare (is this REALLY a romance novel?!) but all ends well.
If you love military romances, this is definitely for you.
