When you go through a door, all the other possibilities behind the other doors are gone. Chris’s door was not giving a ride to Larissa after a concert because he was to slow to offer it. His best friend did, and that set a chain of events that led to Larissa not dating him. 

When Larissa chose the other guy to drive her home, she didn’t know that she she had just met the perfect man, the greenest of all flags, but she got in the car with the other one. They would end up being friends anyway and even sharing a dod and suddenly her life became easy and nice. 

But choices were made and even if this friendship is slowly killing Chris, he’ll never make a move… And then the Universe decides to intervene. 

OMG, this ‘best friend’s girl’ trope is hard to write without making it into a love triangle and turning the pining one into a disloyal person but Abby turned this into a sort of modern Cyrano de Bergerac and I was here for it! I was right there rooting for Chris, hoping Larissa would finally see that whatever she loved in her boyfriend was actually coming from Chris’s influence on him. 

The audiobook is narrated in a hybrid duet style (the narrators perform in dual but they voice their character throughout the book) by Teresa Palmer and Zachary Webber. Zachary has always been tailored to Abby’s heroes and I am glad to see him voicing Chris. His portrayal of him is nuanced and endearing, making you root for the quiet pharmacist hard. Teresa seems to be new to narration, but she brings her acting chops and shines like a seasoned narrator. Her Larissa is sassy, fun and determined. Zero notes for the audiobook. Perfection. 

I was also glad to catch up with Xavier, Samantha and we even get a Wakan mention! I am always happy to get my hands on an Abby book!
