If you’ve been reading the Undone series, you met Kane in book 1 – the “villain” of that story. Then you learned throughout the series that he’s not what people think he is. And then we meet the quirky, kinda weird, tiny little thing daughter of the new assistant coach and we discover that Toren and Lily have a very complicated past.
And boy talk about a complicated, painful story that will suck you in completely. Through dual timelines (memories of the past), we learn about Toren’s tragic childhood and how he got to meet Lily. We also get to know why the peculiar girl is so… different.
Though this can be read as a standalone, I highly suggest you experience all the previous books before getting to this one. They are superb and their stories happen at somewhat parallel timelines and you get the most out of Undone knowing the backstories and different POVs.
This is a story of redemption – but a redemption of what people perceive of Toren because he has been a green flag hero who has gone through so much that the only thing is left is his bad reputation. And it’s hard to win when people you thought would support you are working to bring you down.
Toren and Lily are ‘meant to be’ in the deepest way and you’ll have your heart broken seeing how they both keep getting the short end of the stick… until they realize that what they truly have is each other.
What you get: two broken people who are the truest soulmates, a coach from HELL but also a coach (and his wife) from Heaven, so much yearning, learning to believe that you are worthy of love, incredibly well done mental health rep, ‘I hate everyone but you’ vibes (lies, because Toren is the most loving hero underneath it all), dual timelines, a best friend (who could have been more, IYKYK – Holden), a hero who tattooed his girl’s favorite paintings on his skin, a little kid who found a hero, found family at its finest forms and a hard earned HEA. Beautiful!
Representation: FMC lost hearing on one ear and uses a hearing aid. MMC is bi. Queer secondary character. (no queerphobia)
