Ellison and Copeland fell hopelessly in love as teenagers, had plans of forever and then one day… he just leaves. He joins the Marines with no explanation, leaving Ellison devastated.
The years go by and Ellison has had her share of grief: losing Cope, the death of her parents, but she has been trying to move on.
Now Copeland is back in town. His mother is battling cancer and he got himself an early retirement. He’s been in town before but he’s done everything in his power to avoid Ells. It’s a small town, it will be impossible to do that now, especially with his mom meddling and forcing him to stay at the Moran inn.
They’ll have to face each other and everything that happened in the past and now Copeland is ready to fight for Ellison even when all she does is try not to love him.
The audiobook is narrated in duet by two favorites and they never disappoint. Savannah Beachwood’s melodious voice embodies Ellison’s spirit – a girl full of love and wishes who has seen it all fall apart but still finds purpose in life. Connor Crais is in his element as the stoic, loyal Copeland who’s determined to prove that everything he’s ever done was for Ellison. Superb narration here.
This is a quintessential miscommunication trope book. Remember – they were VERY young when they got together, so they were bound to mess up. However, there was an agent behind all this that I had trouble forgiving for being the key agent in keeping those two obviously ‘meant to be’ people apart. I’m glad they were not easily forgiven, even with the circumstances, because their motives were horribly selfish.
What you get: a true ‘it’s always been you’, and ex-military loyal son who comes back home when needed, a dedicated big sister, lots of yearning, a meddling sick mother with sneaky methods of kicking her son out of her home, supportive sisters and grandparents, lost love letters, secret tattoos, unexpected surprises and a heartwarming HEA.
Content notes (including but not limited to): death of parents (car accident), parent dealing with cancer (treatment and remission)
