Alice is the town librarian who works a few nights ay Joy’s Elbow Room to complement her salary. And every time Caleb Kelly walks through the door, her heart rate spikes and she blushes furiously. Four years of intensive crushing and of him being oblivious. Then one day he saves her from a rowdy customer and she takes a shot and kisses him. For a second, oh wow, he kisses her back. 

Caleb is dumbfounded by that kiss and ends up asking Alice out only to back out and explain he has no time for anyone but his son, Jesse. Alice is heartbroken, but it’s a wake up call. This is never going to happen. So, take a deep breath, shake it off and move on. 

But when a date goes horribly wrong, it’s Caleb who’s there to pick her up and he’s finally realized that Alice occupying a much bigger space in his thoughts than he believed. Now, he has to convince her to give him a second chance. 

The audiobook is narrated by Emma Wilder and Sean Masters and they both wow me with their ability to create a whole set of different characters within the same series. 10/10. No notes. 

I had been waiting for Caleb’s story since book 1, so I must confess that in some instances I wanted to conk him on the head with a frying pan. Get it together, man! You can’t get any any better than Alice! But it all worked out in the end.  

I also wanted more of Alice’s past because the girl survived a doozy of a childhood. She survived being ‘spare parts’ for her sister and I needed more her to get more from her sister… but it is what it is in real life too, right?

What you get: a loving librarian/waitress with a cute crush, a (what a fresh take!) single dad with a ‘dad bod’ who’s clueless that he is the girl’s dream man, a super smart kid, reading aloud to her, no other woman drama, other woman boyfriend’s drama, apology flowers in all shapes and forms, and a sweet HEA.
