American Sweethearts is the last in the Dreamers series and we follow Priscilla (a NYC police detective who cares deeply about people and has an interesting side gig as a sex educator) and Juan Pablo (an athletic trainer for the NY Yankees who has complicated feelings about the police force). They’ve been on and off since they were teens. They clearly love each other but a lot of growing up had to be done so that could focally be together. 

I liked that we have a bisexual, Afro-Italian-Latinx hero who puts in the work to grow and be better. He goes to therapy and works on his crap. So much so that, when you compare him to Priscilla, she sometimes feels a little hardheaded and set in her ways. I wanted to love her: she’s plus sized, sex positive and has such great heart… but I also wanted to scream at her sometimes. 

I absolutely LOVED the audiobook! Narrated in duet by Frankie Corzo and Noah B. Perez, who knocked it out of the park. Frankie’s sweet, melodious voice softens Priscilla a little, which was great. Noah’s raspy, rumbly voice makes JuanPa a dream. Also, perfect Spanish! Together they are fire!

Second chance romances can be hard to sell unless you believe they do have a chance to be happy together and in this one you root for them to find their HEA from the beginning.

What you get: a couple who clearly adores each other  but who need to reach the emotional maturity levels to make it actually work, a sex positive environment (loved the scenes at the center with the curious and engages ‘tias’),  lots of steam (and not the vanilla kind).

I am going to miss this Latinx crew of so many interesting characters!
