Seattle Phantom Football #1
ALC provided by Must Love Audio
Author: Maggie Rawdon
Narrators: Amy Hall and J. F. Harding
Thanks, @maggierawdonbooks and @mustloveaudio for this ALC and the prequel, Defensive End.
Harper and Alex met a few years ago and clicked. But at that point, even with just one night of talking and sharing one single kiss, it was obvious that Alex was nowhere near ‘relationship’ material. They part ways.
Fast forward to the present and Harper is now divorced. Her husband was none other than Alex’s best friend and agent. Alex stayed away, even though he knew that Harper was ‘the one that got away’.
Now, when at a party he sees her being harassed by a drunk teammate he intervenes. A fight ensues. He learns she’s divorced. And the mess is made: the optics are BAD. He (known for being a hothead) just pummeled his teammate. The PR engine starts to work and wheels turn and the best scenario is saying that Alex was defending his new girlfriend. Fake dating is a must.
And we all know where this is going, right?
The audiobook and prequel are narrated in duet by Amy Hall and J.F. Harding and it’s my first time listening to them together. Boy, did they bring on the swoon and the heat! Amy’s performance is top notch as the quiet, hurt Harper. J.F. is swoony as the reformed bad boy who can’t believe the universe is handing him the opportunity to fix th past and get the woman of his dreams.
What you get: second chance romance, best friend’s ex, fake (soon turning real) dating, very steamy hot tub spice, small and grand gestures, a villainous ex, found family in friends, being honest with each other and finding a way to a much earned HEA.
I am a vengeful witch so I have to confess that I wanted someone to get their comeuppance in a more, shall we say, spectacular way…
Content notes (including but not limited to): mild violence, cheating (not MCs), blackmail, litigious divorce proceedings
