The Crimson Crows are back and Silas has tasked Traven with the assignment that might finally break him: act as his best friend (and the secret love of his life)’s baby sister’s bodyguard. Trevan knows he’s the best man for the job as he would literally die for her.
Elena had been sheltered from the club’s business until she ends up in a situation that puts her life on the line. That makes her brother even more protective, suffocating her. She needs to live. What she wasn’t expecting was that she’d have to share her new ‘freedom’ with the only man she has ever had eyes for watching her every move and resisting the pull between them with an iron will.
Until they both break…
I was waiting for this one impatiently. ‘It’s always been you’ is one of my favorite tropes and this one comes with all the forbiddances that go with the nature of their relationship. These two have loved each other since they were children and through flashbacks we find how complicated Trevan’s relationship with the Mercers is.
We get a lot of grumpy/sunshine. ‘touch her and die’, found family, with the determined young woman who just wants to own her little shop and live her life, a broody, morally gray hero who will literally die for the heroine and lots of push and pull. The story is, I must confess, too long. The audiobook clocks at around 17 hours, so it will take a chuck of your time. It is narrated in duet by the Queen, Andi Arndt, who gives us a sassy but vulnerable Elena in a flawless performance as always, and Austin Stone. It took me a bit to get used to some of Austin’s acting choices, especially when voicing Silas, as it’s so different from the original that it threw me off a bit every time I heard him speak. Eventually we got there.
I always enjoy Amy’s books and I am very excited for Brody!
