Thanks, @jsamanbooks and @mustloveaudio for the audiobook.
Vander Moore, security firm CEO by day and vigilante hacker by night (or days in a row), can’t believe his eyes when he stops at a coffee shop for a pick me up shot of caffeine after days holed in his “closet”. It’s her, his angel, Liora. She doesn’t recognize him, even when he defends her from a ‘Karen’. He’s still processing his feelings about it when he sees her again when he goes to a strip club for a job. And she’s dancing. He can’t stop his protective feelings and he butts in, getting her fired from both jobs so that he can hire her as his PA.
Liora is furious. She can’t believe her teenage love, who abandoned her right after her brother – his best friend- died. Now, he’s disrupting her life like a tsunami. She can’t afford distractions like Vander. She has a little girl to raise and a past to run from. A past a skilled hacker can definitely find out.
Narrated dual style by Stella Hunter and Connor Crais, this one was fun and it was a little different from the previous books, with a dash of suspense. Stella is (pardon the horrible pun) stellar as the sassy single mom who’s doing anything to keep away from her past and to protect her kid. Her kid voice is adorable! Connor brings us another alpha mellow – Vander is definitely morally gray but he’s a protector. ‘Light gray’, I would say. And Connor definitely does these well. Sir, stop with the growling with a certain four-letter word! (Actually, don’t! LOL)
I was stuck to my earphones, invested not only in the romance but also the revelations from their past that keeps popping up.
If you love a second chance for high school sweethearts, a modern Robin Hood type of a hero, an office romance (and so much ‘inappropriate’ office behavior, if you know what I mean) you will love this undeniably swoony story!
Note: you get quite a few cameos in this one!
Content notes: mentions of death of loved one; criminal activities; betrayal, violence; toxic relationship with a parental figure, mentions of domestic abuse, child abandonment
