Thanks, @dreamscapemedia for the ALC.
Leo has come to Los Angeles to join the Aztecs to play football (erm, ‘soccer’) and write his memoir. One day he decides to write in the library. That’s where he meets Estrella, a twice-divorced single mother of two adorable little kids, Luz and Pedro. He’s drawn to them and they chat and when they leave, he sees that Luz has left her stuffed lion. He will keep it but will they ever see each other again?
Estrella has left Mexico and a successful career as a telenovela star to be away from the mess back home. Now, she’s dealing with being an unknown, having an agent who keeps telling her to ‘lose the accent’ and raising two kids all on her own. She doesn’t recognize The Lion. He doesn’t recognize The Star. They get a chance of a fresh start. Until paparazzis and ex-husbands enter the chat…
The audiobook is narrated dual style by two of my favorite narrators: Vanessa Vasquez and Oscar Reyes, which gives authenticity to the performances. Estrella is a determined actress and mama bear. Leo is the sweetest footballer ever, going completely against the stereotype of cocky athletes in that sport. They both narrate with an accent as the two are transplants from Mexico and do a great job.
It’s a sweet novella, a little instalove-y but satisfying, especially because the epilogue takes us 30 years into the future.
Though in the Kingsmans universe, this can be considered a standalone.
Representation: Latine MCs, plus size heroine
Content notes (including but not limited to): bigotry against accents, brief situation including child custody battle
