Thanks, @penelopewardauthor and @mustloveaudio for the gifted ALC.

Chloe is coming home to sort her mother’s affairs. Her mom is in a memory care facility, her dad remarried and her sister is away, so it’s her job to sort through the whole mess in storage. So many memories that no one seems to want or care for.  She rents a house but there is a mishap and the house is already occupied when she arrives. And the occupants are Evan Ricci and his 8-year-old daughter. Evan – the guy who lived with her family when his mother got sick, the one she fell in love with at age 12 and who rejected her at age 18. Now, in a town swarmed by deer hunters renting properties for the season, she has to share the place with the all grown up Evan and his lovely little girl. Old feelings, resentments and truths will resurface and they will become their biggest challenge.

The audiobook is narrated in duet by Desirée Ketchum and Connor Crais. Desirée’s melodious voice is perfect for the warm but sassy Chloe. She’s also great as the little girl! Connor is in his element as the kinda cocky, kinda grouchy single dad who’s incredibly protective of his little girl and doesn’t know what to do with these old, repressed feelings for Chloe.  The chemistry between Chloe and Evan is palpable! Great narration!

What you get: childhood best friends who reconnect through chance, reuniting with family members, clearing the air of old resentments, ‘it’s always been you’,  an adorable little girl, losing a parent before they’re actually gone, healing old wounds, creating new families, and playing a game of  ‘challenges’ that make you grow. Lovely.

Content notes (including but not limited to): mentions of loss of parents. Child abandonment, dealing with a parent with dementia, estrangement from parent
