We’re back at S.J. Tilly’s “Alt-verse” with Vameer. If you’ve been reading this series, he’s Volik’s long lost brother who just woke up from an involuntary 103-year-old nap to a special surprise that smells of apples and chocolate: Rune, his mate. 

When Rune turns 30, she get the shock of a lifetime when she’s suddenly hallucinating herself in a cave with a huge and totally irresistible vampire. Or so she thinks because Vameer is absolutely real and he comes back for her after she’s teleported back home in a poof.

They’re obviously irresistibly drawn to each other, and  many things happened during Vameer’s little nap… but his enemies are pretty much still alive. Plus, the puny humans have realized that they are not the top of the food chain anymore and they start doing sneaky things. 

The audiobook is narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and Walker Williams, with the added cameos of Chloe Ryan and Sean Masters, reprising their roles from book 1. Samantha’s performance is flawless as the peppy, sassy and completely bewildered Rune who sees herself in the most unexpected situation. It’s my first time listening to Walker and he managed to give Vameer a deep commandeering tone paired with an accent fitting  someone who’s lived through centuries all over the world. We also get the amazing Chloe and Sean added to the mix, which makes it all more fun.

What you get: an very interesting ‘meet cute’, a fish out of water vampire (a paranormal ‘boomer” lol), a virginal heroine, lots of instalove and instalust (well, hello, fated mates here), magical daggers, teleporting portals, Druids, ‘Alts’, shifters, enemies from the past and a fun HEA. 

Note: the book can be read as a standalone but it’s definitely best if you read Volik. It also does a lot of world building preparing for the rest of the series. 

Content notes( including but not limited to): blood. gore, violence, torture (dismemberment, exsanguination, gun/knife/sword use. Well, it’s a ‘vampires at war’ story…
