Thanks, @podiumentertainment for the gifted audiobook.
Hudson Hayes, star defenseman of the DC Stars, is losing hope that he’ll ever find a personal chef. The stars align and, to her desperation, a chef – single mother Madeline Galloway – loses her job. At wit’s end, she reaches out to an acquaintance who says she might find her an opportunity to cook for a hockey player… all the way in the DC. Well, beggars can’t be choosers, she has a child to support, so the takes the interview.
To her delight, her potential employer is the easiest, nicest, greenest of flags person she has ever met and he even goes the extra mile and offer her room and board. And he has zero problems that she has a kid.
Soon, Hockey Guy/Blond Bombshell and Knife/Golden Girl are hitting it off. Lucy is also ecstatic about her new digs, the dogs and her new access to her favorite sport, hockey.
As the days go by and they share a NYE kiss… things start to change.
The audiobook, narrated in duet by the incomparable Brooke Bloomingdale and Teddy Hamilton is a slap shot indeed. You hit play and enjoy it till you’re done. Brooke’s melodious voice embodies the mama bear chef with perfection, adding a little sass to her performance, which makes their banter delightful. Who better than Teddy to portray a green flag, golden retriever hockey player who doesn’t even like to fight on the ice? Together they are magic.
Chelsea always brings the feels and the good feels, even though she touches on delicate subjects. Hudson is still grieving his mom’ s passing and Madeline is navigating raising a wonderful Deaf child all on her own after her husband decided it was ‘too much’. P.O.S…
What you get: the nicest hockey player to hit the ice, a devoted mama who cooks heavenly foods, banter banter banter, learning sign language, cute dogs that go to daycare, meaningful tattoos, being honest about the funky hockey player stench, small and grand gestures, slow burn and a finding your own version of the perfect HEA.
Representation: Lucy, Madeline’s child, is deaf and communicates via ASL
Content notes: child/spouse abandonment, loss of a parent (past), grief
