The Brodie Brothers #2

Kindle Edition, ALC Audiobook

Author: Kayley Loring

Narrators: Zachary Webber, Emily Woo Zeller, Teddy Hamilton, Jason Clarke, Mackenzie Cartwright, Connor Crais, Emma Wilder.

Meet cute: 3 years ago. Dylan is minding his own business, just trying to get lunch when he sees her. In her red and shoelaces untied. He, in the most chivalrous way, bends down and ties them for her… and nope, nothing comes out of it because Scarlett is fresh out a divorce, with a 5 year old son and last thing she needs is another actor in her life.

Fast forward to three years later and Dylan is yet again being teased by his brothers that he has just broken up with another  of his co-stars. He seems to fall in love with all of them. And whatever Dylan does is fodder for intense big brothers razzing, as it should be, according to family tradition.

Trying to get out of this pattern, Dylan seeks a new therapist. He really wants to deal with all this and find a person to can be himself with, to feel safe with, to be loved by and love in return.

Well, well, well… guess who’s a therapist! And guess who, in these past three years, watched every single episode of Dylan’ s former show on Disney+ because she never got the chivalrous shoelace tier out of her head?

I have a disclaimer: I love Kayley Loring. She’s my go to author for when I want to laugh and get the warm and fuzzies while I am laughing. Because that’s exactly what this book is.  We get the whole Brodie clan in top form. We get Scarlett’s family (I just love her mom!!!) and a smart and funny kid in Scarlett’s Noah. And we get Dylan, my favorite Brodie of all  since book 1. He’s all heart. We get Scarlett, whose brain is so like mine I was scared! And Kayley, evil woman that she is, even throws in a cuter than cute rescue kitten!

I love the way the relationship develops and I love how the meddling of both families is so much fun to read! The group texts are hilarious! Mama Brodie is my favorite texter! EVER!

Kayley’s writing is perfect for audiobooks. And she kicks ass writing them. What I just read was the perfect script in book form. I can’t wait to listen to it when it is released.

I am in love with these characters, with tiny kitten and little boys obsessed with farts!

Oh, and do yourself a favor and watch this before you read or listen to the audiobook. You will thank me later, for several reasons. Eight-pack, anyone???

Narration: I love audiobooks. I am one of those people who actually enjoys them as works of art themselves. I don’t listen to them to speed my reading (I am in fact a freak who can read faster than listening to the audiobook). I also am that psycho who listens to it at 1x speed. I enjoy the performances, the acting involved in narrating. A mediocre book can be saved by stellar narration and a perfect book can be killed by a bad one. And when you get a wonderfully constructed piece of writing like Kayley Loring brought to us in this book and you put it together with a cast of GOAT narrators, you get a unicorn: the perfect audiobook.

You can tell that Kayley Loring writes knowing that her books are going to be narrated. And this series (and particularly this book)  was tailor made for the people she cast in to play her characters. Zachary Webber IS Dylan Brodie. Emily Woo Zeller is a new narrator for me and I confess that I was kinda worried because I have a huge soft spot for Scarlett. Well, my worries were unfounded. She so nailed it! And we get multi-cast narration with Jason Clarke, Connor Crais, Teddy Hamilton, Emma Wilder and the official voice of KL’s lady parts (listen to Kayley Loring’s podcast and you will know what I am talking about), Mackenzie Cartwright.

You get Zach doing little boy voice. (SO STINKING CUTE)

You get a special appearance by Drew Barrymore…

And if you are a Jason Clarke fan, you get Chapter 35. Just sayin’

Thank you, Kayley, for a fairly sleepless night (the ALC copy dropped in my mailbox at 12 am!) but sleep is overrated when you get to spend time having so much fun!

It’s (insert a Mama Brodie expletive) good!

(I received an ALC in exchange for an honest review)
