When you think of a sexologist who has a podcast you may not think of a pink-haired lady who uses a wheelchair, but that’s Frankie. Her All Access podcast is a success, and she’s on the road to getting a prestigious award. One of her listeners asks her a question about safe and accessible rope play for disabled people. She’s stumped. She has no idea how to answer, so the best way to go about it is to research.

Enter Jay Wood: a carpenter by day and a rigger by night, he teaches about rope play at a club who caters to people with special needs. He’s a friend of a friend and they kinda know each other so she feels safe to ask him for his help.

They are immediately attracted to each other, but Jay has been hurt before and he is scared to be burned again, so he doesn’t date. Frankie is not a hook-up kinda girl… so, where does that leave them?

What I liked:

  • how Frankie is such a cool character. Open and understanding and good. Jay is such a sweetie. We can tell he has been hurt before, but he treats Frankie in such a swoony way it’s hard not to fall for him too.
  • the secondary characters! I love the crew of people surrounding them. They are all real people, some with disabilities or chronic illnesses themselves, and I loved the rep.
  • the way that Frankie is not defined by her disability. She’s just Frankie, who happens to use a wheelchair.
  • the romance. When they are together it’s steamy and sweet.

What made this not a 5 star review:

  • the instalove/instalust. I really wish the author took more time to show us how they fall in lust and love than just telling us.
  • for a book with that title and synopsis it has very little rope play! But then again, I guess the cute cover should have been a hint. lol

All in all, it is a great book and I recommend it if you want a nice, sweet romance with a little kink. 😉

Possible triggers: portrayal of kink/rope play; mentions of BDSM, ableism, past parental addiction, the foster care system, and past cheating.
