Tattered and Torn Book #1

Audiobook, Audible

Author: Catherine Cowles

Narrators: Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber

At the tender age of 11, Everly Kemper did something that would change her life forever: she did the right thing. Hayes Easton’s life was also forever changed on the same day and he carries an enormous guilt about what happened to his family. So, when Everly shows up years later, he has no intention of making her feel welcome. Possibly, neither will the rest of the town. But he’s the sheriff, so no matter what he’s supposed to protect her.

However, Everly is not at all what he expected. She’s got a backbone made of the strongest steel and she’s determined to reclaim the family land and erase all the bad things that happened there by building an animal sanctuary and shelter.

While they become friends, and something more, evil is lurking in the shadows…

This book really reminded me of old school Nora Roberts’ romantic suspenses and I mean that in the best possible way! It’s an emotional ride not only for Ev and Hayes but also for his family and the cherished people she left behind. I have to confess that I figured out who was behind the attempted kidnappings at around the 50% mark (everyone who knows me knows it’s my superpower) but it didn’t take away from the book at all! I loved seeing Ev and Hayes heal and fall in love.

This is book 1 in the Tattered and Torn series and I’m very invested in the Eastons and the other people from Wolf Gap.

A great read!

Narration: When you get Andi (Meryl Streep 😉 ) Arndt and Zachary Webber narrating an emotional story, you just know you are in for a treat. So much freaking talent packed together! Superb!

Possible triggers: kidnapping, shooting, mentions of assault and psychological abuse, toxic family relationship, militia/cult-like family
